IMAX Sydney sits within The Ribbon, an architectural landmark in Darling Harbour. Home to one of the world’s largest cinema screens, it offers an immersive experience that blends cutting-edge technology with a uniquely Sydney atmosphere. As part of The Ribbon’s revitalisation, IMAX represents the return of a city icon, bigger, brighter, and designed to bring audiences closer to the magic of film.

Responsibilities
End-to-end design of architecture and interiors: from lo-fidelity conceptual design and development applications to hi-fidelity tender and construction prototypes
Technical drawing and documentation using industry standard BIM Revit, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite. Development of reusable component libraries in both 2D and 3D.
Multidisciplinary collaboration with project managers, executives, consultants, researchers, product marketing and teammates.
Coordination of services with structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire engineers.
Conducting design studies and workshops for product development, client presentations and buildability.
Designing for accessibility under the Disability Discrimination Act
Quality assurance and compliance to the Australian Standards (federal)
Document control of construction drawings, schedules and models.
Training and mentoring other team members on areas of specialisation.

Lessons learned
A key learning from this project was recognising that when a brand already has a strong identity, the most effective approach is to build on those solid foundations rather than push in directions that don’t align with its core character.
